"Puss In Boots 2" - It's the Exact Encouragement For Any Mum/Dad of Kids With Autism (Weirdly, it changed me - I feel like a different parent)

Puss in Boots Poster - Autism + Child

Tell me I’m off-the-planet levels of crazy, but this film completely changed my perspective on my parenting. Completely - "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish".

Goldilocks halfway through the movie realises this:

She doesn’t need to keep striving and chasing her giant goal in life (the goal of having her “Perfect Family”).

Suddenly it dawns on her that she’s actually got a wonderful family. She can choose to be grateful for them.

Sure, they might be a quirky family of “Goldilocks & 3 Bears” who constantly squabble, fight and have melt-downs.

Yet, they definitely love each other.

So Goldilocks can stop her crazy, stressed-out quest to create the perfect family because she realises that she has actually already got what she is wanted.

This totally changed my perspective on parenting.

Be encouraged: We’ve just recently seen a few dozen of our students graduate from “Secret Agent Society” and “Peers Friendship Skills For Teens”. They’ve had a big friendship skills upgrade, but they are still the exact same kids who their parents could have been just as proud of at the start of the course.

Yes, in our own imperfect families, let’s get our kids all the help we can, and also let’s remember this - That we’ve got lovely, caring, good-hearted kids who are going to have a really positive impact on the world.

Like Goldilocks, we’ve already got exactly the family we need… if we can take a moment to realise that.

Keep being amazing.

We aren’t teenagers anymore. We don’t need anyone’s approval. Be really clear about what your needs are and then be persistent about making sure that those needs get met.

This is unbelievably sad for me to write. I’ll bet this is something your child deals with. In fact, I sort of dare you to have a chat with your child and find out.
